What’s up everyone!
Happy Tuesday, happy mid July, what is going on everybody! I hope you are all doing so well and having a great week!
We had an amazing week here in Valle Ceylán, it’s already been going by so fast and I feel like yesterday was just barely P-Day which is nuts. So here’s what happened this week!
✨️ Highlights!
– Dang guys the scriptures are just so true. This week I had a lot of questions and needed some answers and Heavenly Father answered me through the scriptures. Go read them, it’s real stuff!
– A member we were scheduled to eat with was out at work so she ordered us some Casa de Toño over Uber Eats, we both got chilaquiles. All the ingredientes were separated so we got them all set up. My lactose intolerant companion sadly looked at his chilaquiles without cream or cheese, grabbed both of them, and said “it’s so worth it” while he doused the chilaquiles in dairy. Once he had finished it, he gave it a good look, made a 😬 face and said “man, just looking at this stuff gives me gas” and let me tell you, I testify to those words.
– We have a ton of people in teaching right now who we are teaching in English. Feels weird, I don’t know how to teach in English and all I do is confuse myself, but it’s really fun anyways! I think we seriously have like 6 friends that we teach in English. Jared West, how do you do it?
– In divisions with an area calles Santa Cecilia, we knocked a door and this awesome lady introduced her to this group she had started of overcoming drug addictions through Jesus. Her job is 24/7 because all 26 people in the group live there! It was super cool to meet them and this week hopefully we can get a few of us over there and teach about Jesus! What a cool lady doing such good stuff.
– Yesterday we were eating at an awesome family’s house and they brought us out homemade strawberry ice cream. The daughter didn’t want to eat any but I did watch her grab the bottle of shakeable parmesean cheese and a spoon and down a few heaps of cheese, plain. Listen, I love cheese, but I was pretty disturbed as she poured herself a fourth spoonful. Parmesean cheese is not thattttt good.
– We have had soooo so many miracles this week, it’s kind of nuts! We have 9 people on baptismal date for the next couple weekends, and we have 3 or 4 families in teaching and they are all so sweet and progressing so real. It seriously is the coolest people to see people’s lives changed through Jesus Christ!! I am so excited and so happy, please pray for our friends and this area! There is unlimited potential!
That’s about all the stuff that’s notable that’s happened this week. I love being in this area and I’m having a ton of fun with Elder Nye, missions are so cool and the scriptures are true!
📖 Something I Read
I was reading this week in the early chapters of Alma, and I especially love chapter 5!
Alma is teaching a bunch of wicked people, basically like he was teaching me, and I really like these few verses:
“A shepherd hath called after you and is still calling after you, but ye will not hearken unto his voice!
Behold, I say unto you, that the good shepherd doth call you; yea, and in his own name he doth call you, which is the name of Christ; and if ye will not hearken unto the voice of the good shepherd, to the name by which ye are called, behold, ye are not the sheep of the good shepherd.
And now if ye are not the sheep of the good shepherd, of what fold are ye?”
Something I’ve been trying to think, do, and teach this week, is something most of you who know my Dad well have probably heard him mention.
Is what I’m doing right now helping me progress? Is what I’m doing moving me up and to the right 📈, am I staying the same, or am I going down 📉 ?
The things we do every day determine whether or not we progress towards being Christlike disciples, and choose to listen to his voice and be called into his fold, or not! He is always calling us, but it’s our choice to join His fold or not, and it’s a daily battle! While the overall graph may represent how you did overall in life, when you zoom in, its the small and simple decisions that you make daily that determine where you end up. We all were born and are going to die some day, and where we started and where we ended doesn’t matter as much, what matters is that we came closer to Christ and chose to follow His plan and male efforts to try and be like Him!
So, here’s an invitation from a great general conference talk from a great speaker, both names which I forgot. Protect the private times of your life. Don’t put on two different faces in church and with your friends. Be the same disciple of Christ in every moment, and stand up for what you believe in!
I’ll tell you what doesn’t matter in terms of your eternal happiness: what the world thinks of you. What does matter is what God thinks of you, because He is the only one that teaches and grants eternal life! Choose Him early, choose Him daily, and choose Him always, and the blessings (now or eternally) will always outweigh the sacrifices.
Anyways, you guys are the best. Thanks for reading! Always remember I love you all and you are in my prayers. Go make it a great week, go do something fun, and be nice to other people! They need it!
Hasta entonces, recuerden que les amo!
