Hey hey mis cuates!
Happy Tuesday folks, what is happening! I hope everyone is doing great, happy 4th of July and happy summer! Don’t let it go by too fast!
This week was super dope and I’m feeling hyped and happy! I’m lower on time this week so I’ll try to keep it shorter than usual….wish me luck!
✨️ Highlights:
– We had Transfers on Thursday, and I headed out of Casas Alemán! I’m now with Elder Nye who is legendary, I’ve always wanted to be with him! It’s been so much fun already and the new area is so cool! I’m in the only zone that’s in the State of Mexico, in an area called Valle Ceylán. It’s a great area, there are lots of little parks, families, and people have LAWNS! WHAT! Definitely the most American-looking area I’ve been in and the people are really nice, and it’s really green. We have a river that runs down the middle of our area, a Mayan (or Aztec, beats me) pyramid literally across the street from our front door. We have some really pretty green hills all around us and a big old statue of Jesus! So excited to be in this area!
– This area has so many people and so much potential, it’s really cool! The church is a minute away from our house, right next to a market with amazing burritos, burgers, and bolis (ooooh man I love those) so lots of people are familiar with the area and want to come to church!
– On Sunday we made tortillas with a sweet old lady in the ward and I burned the daylights out of my arm hairs, but the tortillas were delicious, the arm hair that likely ended up in the tortillas was a nice touch
– We knocked a door at night and this ancient dude in just his tighty whiteys, white knee socks, and Houston Astros hat and did not seem thrilled to see us, I was not thrilled to see his outfit. He didn’t want to come to church and did not like being called “hermano” or “señor” and I was laughing to myself the whole time
– I got here just in time to help finish teaching Sabina, who is such a cool person and got baptized on Sunday! She has an amazing testimony and brought her family with her to church. I haven’t known her for very long but she always brings us candy and sells Bolis (alright its kind of just like ice cream in a plastic bag that you eat like a otter pop?) and I was so so happy to see her be baptized!!
– I had a nightmare where Jared West knocked our door with the tightey whitey outfit and tried to sell us Colgate toothpaste at 3 or so in the morning. How likely is that to happen in real life?
Well, it was a great week and I am so excited to work here with Elder Nye!! There is just so much potential here and I can’t wait to see so many miracles and have a great time while we are at it. Anyways, those were about all the highlights!
📖 Something I Read
Alright, the odds that I’ve shared at least one of these verses before, but that’s okay because they are dang good and worth sharing and reading.
Alma the prophet and dad is talking to one of his kids before he goes out so to speak. So, he gives his last advice to his kids, and I love the advice he gives to Helaman in chapter 37 of Alma:
“It is as easy to give heed to the word of Christ, which will point to you a straight course to eternal bliss, as it was for our fathers to give heed to this compass, which would point unto them a straight course to the promised land.
And now I say, is there not a type in this thing? For just as surely as this director did bring our fathers, by following its course, to the promised land, shall the words of Christ, if we follow their course, carry us beyond this vale of sorrow into a far better land of promise.”
Just like a compass takes you North, the Doctrine of Christ will lead you to the promised land and to eternal life! Life and the world is hard, but the path that Christ taught is the path that will carry us through the junk that happens in life and help us find peace now, and after this life! It’s as simple and as constant as using a compass! Because it’s so straightforward, this is the advice Alma gives:
“O my son, do not let us be slothful because of the easiness of the way; for so was it with our fathers; for so was it prepared for them, that if they would look they might live; even so it is with us. The way is prepared, and if we will look we may live forever.”
Dangggggg I love that verse! I know I’ve been saying the same thing the past few weeks, and maybe that’s because I need to hear it, but Christ prepared the way and offers us eternal life. He asks us to sacrifice the world for Him but promises us blessings that are a million times better. I promise that following His Doctrine and teachings is what will bring you actually joy and carry you through life!!
This week, focus on how the Doctrine of Christ (faith, repentance, the baptismal covenant, living worthy of the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end) is a cycle, not a one-and-done. Make each of those 5 principles a focus and priority every day and watch how your outlook on life changes and watch as you are carried through this “vale of sorrow” into something so much better. Put in the work to make it happen!
Well, I love you all so much! Have an amazing week out there, pray for someone by name, live the Doctrine of Christ every day, and be a light! Go make it a good week and find some fun things to do. I love you all!!
Hasta que nos encontremos aquí en una semana,
Rompenla! Les amo!!
