Hello folks!
How is everyone doing this week! Hope everyone is loving summer vacay and having tons of fun, we had a great week here this week!! I’ll try to blaze through this for you guys! Love y’all
✨️Highlights:
– One day we got money to eat food from members so we went out and searched for tacos. We met this dude who had lived in Salt Lake for 8 months and was selling Michote tacos (I don’t know what michote is, and I guess I’d just describe it as wet, delicous meat) and he gave us some big deals and free drinks and it was definitely one of the best decisions of all time, some of the greatest tacos I have had in Mexico!
– My companion bought a $2 little crab fella that he named Larry Smith and thought it would be hilarious to give it to some members, they were not please and made him take it. Currently searching for someone to give it to.
– We had our last Zone Conference with President and Sister Burnham and they made like the whole mission cry, I am soooo sad to see them go and love them so much. They are such good people!
– It dumpedddd rain yesterday and made a lake in the parking lot of our apartment complex, I spent most of the rest of the night wading through water over my ankles. I was really scared I was going to fall into some mysterious grate or hole hidden by the water or worse, walk through backed up sewage, but luckily was spared from either. Phewfff!
– It was Father’s Day on Sunday and I got to talk to my Dad!! Thank you to all you Dad’s and Dad figures out there, and to my own Dad, I love you!! Best example
– Dilan and Omar got baptized this week! 11 y/o Dilan was so happy and excited, and Omar threw the strangest fake temper tantrum including fainting and loss of speech I’ve ever seen in my life. He wins the drama queen title. Poor fella has lost himself a little bit in creating a legendary-sounding life. Definitely the weirdest baptism on his part, but I’m too exhausted of thinking about it at this point to keep talking about it. Despite the fictitious loss of his son (actually, a dog) and the jeopardy of his famous career of writing songs with Shakira, he was baptized! Thanks for the help from the APs 😂
– This awesome lady made me a 10 peso donut right in front of me. Shaped the dough and threw it in the fryer, dipped it in chocolate, one of the best donuts I’ve ever had. Thanks lady, I’ll visit you again! 11/10
That’s about all the more mentionable things that happened this week, it was a great week!! I love being a missionary and it has been so fun to be out here!
📖 Scripture!
This week I’ve been thinking lots about prayer and how to do it better, and what power it actually has! I’ve been trying to realize better that when I am praying, I am literally talking to God. That went along great with my scripture study this week!
I was reading in Mosiah and I love the example that Alma gave when he had a decision to make that was hard. Chapter 26 verse 13
“The spirit of Alma was again troubled; and he went and inquired of the Lord what he should do concerning this matter.”
Dang right he did! That’s the first thing we should do when we need help is go to the Lord! When he and his friends were enslaved, here’s what they did in chapter 24, verses 12-14:
“And Alma and his people did not raise their voices to the Lord their God, but did pour out their hearts to him; and he did know the thoughts of their hearts.
And it came to pass that the voice of the Lord came to them in their afflictions, saying: Lift up your heads and be of good comfort, for I will also ease the burdens which are put upon your shoulders, that even you cannot feel them upon your backs, and this will I do that ye may stand as witnesses for me hereafter, and that ye may know of a surety that I, the Lord God, do visit my people in their afflictions.”
(Combined verse 13 and 14, sorry)
Man well that’s cool! Prayer doesn’t have to be some long, loud, fancy thing, prayer needs to be something sincere that come from your heart. Sometimes, that can just be a “help!” but Heavenly Father listens to every prayer!
The most important part about prayer, and something that President Burnham talked to us about a lot is listening and acting. Answers and solutions are ready and come (not always, but probably more often than we realize!) but it is often us that are too prideful or stubborn to accept and act on God’s council.
So, my invitation, let go of what you want and take hold of what God has waiting for you. It’s very often harder and demands more sacrafice in the moment, but the peace that comes and the eternal life that come with it is wayyyyyy more worth it than the temporary happiness or the moments of fun. I promise that things work out better in the long run for those who follow the Lord!
Anyways, I sure do love you all so much! Hope you’ve had a fun week full of bike rides and sunset hikes and lots of tacos and coke. Go find some joy and give a pet crab to someone special out there! We will talk soon!!
I love you!
